After months of slower running (like between 9:10-9:20 average paces) I was able to have a quicker turn over & ended up with an AP of 8:34, even finishing strong running upnGrandview :) good for my mental to have a negative split today big time! |

| Race: |
Salt Lake City Half marathon (13.1 Miles) 02:16:49 | | So my training was not the best? My i-t band was still bothering me, but I went for it anyway - why not? I loved starting out the race with Rex, my love. First five miles flew by, utnil about 5.75 ish my leg was flaring up. I could stop and stretch it out, run a mile, then really started bothering me about mile seven where from then on, I was stopping every quarter of a mile to stretch, do down dog, all sorts of stretching so I could hobble along. Sad I know, but I refused to drop. Crazy thing is that I was back there with people that run an 11 or 12 minute mile. Humble possition to be in b/c my entire being was ready to fly at the run. Take away: strengthen and run more.

| | Went out @ 4:30 in the afternoon - WIND blowing and 80 degrees. Ran the following splits - 8:29, 8:49 straight into the wind, stopped for water around the river and stretched then 8:14 for mile 3. Stopped, drank and gathered myself up to run from boat docks all the way up Grandview and around into my neighborhood. Felt amazing to push it! That last mile was 8:15 pace. Overall, feel good and have my eyes set on starting to train with the Handson's training method. I would like to shoot for a marathon - Top of Utah.

| | went to Skyline track with Rex this morning for my first day of speed training! Warmed up for a mile then ran 12 400's with 400 recovery jog inbetween. I only clocked my speed 400's and the 12 of them averaged 7:37 pace. Feel pretty good - nice stretching afterwards, could have cooled down for a mile or two, but was ready to get going on my day!
Ravena 5 Purple Miles: 7.00 |
| | Warmed up a mile - then tempo for 3 miles at 8:25 pace then walked for half a miles (bad chest cold) then ran last three quarters mile in. Really stinks being sick in summer - hope I'm good to go on Saturday for the bone relay! |
Ravena 5 Purple Miles: 4.75 |
| | Got up early to run 1.34 mile shake out to see how my lungs were doing. I have been sick the second half of this week and was worried that I wouldn't be able to run today.
Ran leg 8 of Bone 2 Back relay it was 95 degrees when Rex passed off to me - the first 2.5 down the hill was great and beautiful with a breeze. THEN in town, no breeze, the hit was coming off the road in waves and I had to do a jog/walk for a bit combo to finish out. Sandra Dunn's husband, Denis, stopped to soak my head and shirt with cold water, that seemed to revive me a little - but I still \took it easy! So proud of our Compass Academy team. I truly love each one of them and all we have been through in the past three years. I'm excited for my new adventure next year, but will miss my beloved peeps for sure!

| | It brings me relief to log odd milage - we were in the car a lot driving or walking/hiking in Yellowstone yesterday; so I went for a shake out run. Then in the afternoon I completed a 60 minute yoga with stretch/strength and some balance poses. SOOOOOO good to be back doing yoga. My challenge to myself is yogaeverydamnday in July (had to jump start it today) Hope to see core and arm strength return like it was when I was teaching yoga during second trimester this last year. Five days a week, twice on two of those days!

| | Next time I will head over to the track earlier - so hot @ 9 a.m. for speed work out! So this is what I got this morning - 1 mile warm up, 4 -600's with 4 -400's in between. The 600's averaged a 7:36 pace. Rex then drove the girls home and I ran home for 2 mile cool down. Wanted to do about four more 600's but was too hot and queasy feeling. But feeling so good, so praise up!

| | The good and bad about working on speed...yesterday was speed, 10 mile bike ride on Sandra's road bike and a 30 minute deep yoga stretch routein. This morning I was suposed to go out and do a warm up mile, 5 mile tempo at an 8:43 pace and a cool down mile. Here's how it breaks down: mile 1 - 8:43 for the warm up, mile 2 - 8:16, mile 3 - 8:21, mile 4 - 8:27, mile 5 - 8:31, mile 6 - 8:34 and mile 7 was a nice slow 9:29 pace. I stopped multiple times bewtween miles to gather myself. This was a tough run mentally, I felt all over the place. I think tomorrow's run in Twin Falls will be nice and easy before we head up to Sun Valley for the day of bike riding. Love Summer Time!
Ravena 5 Purple Miles: 7.00 |

| | Ran in Twin Falls - 85 degrees, but was thankful for cloud coverage on our Independance Day!! The run had some good hills to conquer so that was fun! I averaged 9:29 pace, which I was ready to take it nice and slow, but pushed on the hills. Longest run I have ran in quite a while!

| | Late night with fireworks, cousins, grilling and swimming! So I slept in til 8, rolled out of bed and into my running clothes so I wouldn't have time to talk myself out of the run :) Windy out in the country - went south so I only had the one larger hill to work out on! Was amazed at how good I felt, started out slow then was able to kick it in to an 8:48 pace. Getting a little nervous for all the travel and car time will will have over the next week and half; between Spokane, Canada and back through again ....
Ravena 5 Purple Miles: 5.19 |
| | Woke to 63 degree/overcast skies with a nice breeze. Rex and I ran from home to Skyline track 1.75 then warmed up for another quarter around the track. Was able to complete 6 - 800's with 400's in between. For the speed work out I held a 7:34 average pace. It was tough on the last two, but I dug deep (which felt really good to push myself hard). Cooled down for a bit at the track and then ran/jogged home at a 9:38 pace for a cool down. Total today I got 8 miles. Feeling good so far - have a lot to get done this week - what a great way to start it out!
Ravena 5 Purple Miles: 8.00 |
| |
| | Warmed up for 2 miles (9:10, 8:50) then picked up the pace for 5 miles at 8:32 average pace then jogged home for the last mile as a cool down. Nice summer rain this morning with cooler temps - so good to be out and about before my full day. Still doing yoga every day and my body feels the difference. I.Love.Yoga. After our two weeks of travel I would like to start hill training again so I'm ready for whatever comes my way!

| | Raining, hills, and mentally hard however- along the Centineal trail in Spokane along the river was beautiful! God sent his angels in pink shirts to stave me off from a creeper that had been following me back and forth on the trail & hiding in wait under an upcoming bridge - ah, Rex was out there with me too! |
Ravena 5 Purple Miles: 12.00 |
| | We made it to Pentictan, BC! Took yesterday off to travel 6 hours up North. Found the high school track, warmed up a mile and then did 6 - 800's at a 7:27 pace with 400's in between. It is so good to run with Rex - I either chase him on the track or run away from him on the track - running is just as much mental as anything. He drove to the church on the corner and I ran there for a cool down- picked me up for us to go back Clark and Corena's. Looking forward to the day at the beach and possibly a movie if the afternoon becomes stormy.

Pocatello Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 02:01:13 | | Love this race for sure! I was great averaging 8:22 pace for the first five miles then both i-t bands were holy moly tight and hurting. Running 7 miles in pain is not cool, but I would stop and stretch out my legs every mile then would be able to run again until the pain would pull so tight that I would need to stop and stretch again - fun times! So suprised that my time was as good as it was for all that stopping and stretching!! WOW - lesson learned....I tighten up when I don't stay running consistently

| | Crazy busy week that I taught yoga three nights and with work, simply didn't get to run (well that and needed to sleep in the morning)
| | So I was feeling so wonderful that I was really craving a long run. I know that I need to ease back into it - so I started feeling my leg/knee --- not too hurtful, just noticed it so I decided to walk briskly back home the last half mile. Simply beautiful weather.
